2011 Seminars - Saturday, September 24th

12:00 p.m. & 2:00 p.m. Jim Nocek, Anyela's Winery Owner and Wine Maker
Enjoy a private tour of the Winery and Vineyards overlooking Skaneateles Lake! The Nocek family combines its viticultural experience with the cooler climate patterns and fertile soil to grow our select grapes. Unlike other vineyards along neighboring Finger lakes, we protect our vines from the cold after the fall harvest. One by one, we carefully remove them from the trellises and bury them in the rich earth to insulate the sensitive primary buds, which eventually become the first fruit. In spring, we re-trellis the vine for maximum sun exposure. We also control our grape yield to cultivate the ripest, most flavorful fruit.

1:00 p.m. Nate Vitale, Wine Educator
Nate will be discussing the history of the arrival of Vitis Vinifera to the Finger lakes Region and efforts of grape development on our local agriculture. There are quite a few wine gems to discover that are made from native grapes and Nate welcomes you to know more about how quickly this area has created such a powerful and unique wine culture.

3:00 p.m. Morten Hallgren, Ravines Winemaker & Proprietor
Join French-trained Oenologist Morten Hallgren through a tasting of the wines he makes for his own Finger Lakes winery, Ravines Wine Cellars, and discussion of the similarities his wines have with classic noble wines of Europe including an understanding of the region's Terroir and how the Finger Lakes is sure to emerge as the greatest American Wine Region.

5:00 p.m. Douglas Hart, Mirbeau Director of Food & Beverage

Whether at the restaurant or at your local bottle shop, don't let the marketing guys try to fool you.
