2011 Open Air Artists

Jennifer Holmes Art

"Jennifer Holmes' career has now reached a new level. While she has won
Connecticut awards for a decade, her new direction and years of working on her
craft have brought more and more mention as being among one of the most prolific of New England plein air painters."
~ Amy Sidman: Argosy Gallery

She says of her painting:
"Plein Air Painting is my chosen discipline. I love being outside in the elements. Like a good 'read', so intent on painting, you are aware of nothing else. When you triumphantly close the 'book', still full of emotions and mood of the place: you are still there."

Jennifer has Elected Artist Status at: North Shore Art Association, Rockport, Lyme, and Mystic Art Associations, Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society. Artist Member level in The Connecticut Academy of Fine Artists and the New Haven Paint and Clay Club, Springfield Academic Artists Association. She holds membership in American Society of Marine Artists.

Showing primarily in New England and New York, Jennifer's works have won
numerous awards: Having received the Top Award: IDIOMAS, LLC, from Clinton Art Society, The Award of Excellence; Mystic Elected Artist Show. Award of 2nd Place; Lyme Art Association Elected Artists Show. Other Shows: The Connecticut Academy of Fine Art Show, Hudson Valley Art Association 76th, 78th and 79th Annual Show, The Springfield Academic Artists Shows, The Salmagundi Art Club 31st Non Member Show in New York.

Jennifer has had paintings accepted for exhibition in the Paint America "Paint the Parks" 2008 Competition, Allied Artists of America 96th Annual Exhibition at The National Arts Club, Gramercy Park, NYC, and Catherine Lorilard Wolf Art Club 114th Annual National Open Juried Show, October 2010.

Jeanne Dupre Art

Jeanne Dupre is primarily a watercolor landscape artist. She specializes in Adirondack and Central New York nature scenes. Her love for hiking and kayaking takes her to many beautiful places.  Her wish is for someone who is viewing her work to stop a few minutes in their day and enjoy the beauty around us.

Jeanne’s work has been collected and exhibited widely in the Adirondacks and beyond.

This year she has been invited to participate as an Artist in Residence at the Adirondack Museum. She also was invited to The Hedges Lodge on Blue Mountain Lake and the Mirbeau Inn & Spa  in Skaneateles.

She is also commissioned by rustic furniture builders across the Adirondacks to paint scenes to be applied to their rustic furniture.

Her current paintings can be seen at Gallery 3040 Main Street, Old Forge, Unique Woodworks in Cleveland N.Y., The Adirondack Rustic Gallery in Schroon Lake, The Lake Placid Lodge, Oswego Artisans at Canal Commons Oswego and at the Rustic Furniture Fair at the Adirondack Museum in September.

Most recently Jeanne won the Outstanding Watercolor award for her painting titled Durant Bridge at The View in Old Forge.

Joyce Bond Backus Art

My recent figure drawing series combines the tradition of life observation drawing from the live model and integrates environment for the figure using digital painting techniques.  I combine multiple hand draw images with my digital imagery, handmade paper, handwritten letters and found artifacts.  These figure drawing pieces reflect urban settings, architectural and natural environments.

Each image created from my life figure drawings become a unique work in a series of related themes.  My digital techniques have become drawing tools as much as my paint brush or charcoal stick.  I work to create an emotional connection to the art image.

I enjoy the psychological element that happens between artist, life model and drawing surface.  I created a limited edition series of original art pieces called Giclee prints.  Each limited edition Giclee artwork is hand embellished with pastel, watercolor paint or color pencil media techniques by the artist.

I work at my home studio in Marietta, NY and teach drawing at Syracuse University, where I earned an MFA in Illustration and a MA in Environmental Design.
